Datamatrix or 2D data encryption, a new industrial system of two-dimensional coding that allows the generation of a large volume of information in a very small format, with a high reading reliability thanks to its information systems and redundant error correction ( readable up to 20% -30% damaged). Data Matrix codes are part of a new trend in terms of traceability in many industries, particularly aerospace where quality controls are very demanding. Data Matrix codes (and accompanying alphanumeric data) identify the details of the component, including manufacturer, product number and a unique serial number. The Department of Defense United States now requires that all components of each acquiring new aircraft, be marked and identified by code Datamatrix.
The DataMatrix symbol consists of square cells defined modules within a perimeter marked. It can encode up to 3116 ASCII characters and the peen exceed 100 characters. The symbol consists of data regions that form square modules in a regular sequence. The larger symbols contain several modules and each data area is delimited by a continuous line on 2 sides and discontinuous in another. Each individual code is surrounded by a smooth area that will act as the margin.
Each code has a specified number of rows and columns. Most symbols are square with sizes from 10 × 10 to 144 × 144. Anyway you can also find Datamatrix codes are rectangular with sizes ranging from 8 × 18 to 16 × 48. All codes can be recognized from the upper right corner when illuminated (binary 0).
ECC200 is the newest version of Data Matrix and supports advanced encryption systems for errors and correction algorithms (such as Reed-Solomon). This algorithm allows the recognition of codes that are damaged as much as 60%.
